Acer Swift SF315-52 black screen on boot

The Acer Swift SF315-52 screen turns off when starting up and remains black but the laptop is on as the light is showing on the side and I can hear the fans.

    Do you see anything normal on the screen during the initial power up? After booting can you see faint traces of the login screen by shining a flashlight on it at an angle?

    No. Power laptop on, and can hear it starting and it displays the Acer logo, but then switches to black as in off. Tried with a light and can't see anything on the screen it's black.

    If I press the sleep button and let the laptop sleep, when I press sleep again to resume it starts up normally with the screen on. It seems like the screen isn't turning on with the normal boot sequence but does when being awoken from sleep mode?

    OK, showing the Acer logo is a good thing, it means the issue isn't the screen itself. Next step is to boot into the BIOS and see if the screen stays on there. If so we're really looking at Windows drivers or configuration. If it goes away while in the BIOS screen then we're likely back to hardware, perhaps a heat issue...

    Managed to restart it and boot to BIOS by holding shift and clicking restart then going through the options eg. Troubleshooting, etc. till you get the option to restart to UEFI and getting to BIOS that way. Haven't managed to get to BIOS from starting it though, not sure if it's because the keys aren't working or it is going to BIOS and screen is staying black.

    Stay in the BIOS for a fair amount longer than it normally takes for the issue to show up and report back with whether it fails. If not then the next step is likely to boot Windows in safe mode and test that.

    A restart into safe mode with networking worked and the screen started up without any interference.

    OK, so we know the issue is likely with the drivers. See if safe mode will let you uninstall the video drivers and reinstall a fresh set from the Acer support site. If not then you might be able to work around it by connecting an external monitor (like a TV using HDMI) and using Duplicate to view the desktop there.
