R7-371T laptop - screen is black but everything else works?

Hi, my R7-371T laptop works except the screen is black.

- If i plug it via an hdmi cable to a monitor the computer is fine (i am using it this way right now to type this), even though the laptop screen is black.
- The laptop touch screen works and so does the camera.
- I have tried resetting windows 10 and re-installing everything, but no luck.
- I tried downloading the drivers from acer and still nothing.
- I have installed all of the windows updates.
- I even went so far as to replace the screen, and still nothing.

I cannot figure it out - any suggestions? (other than to just use it with an external monitor :) )

If you shine a flashlight on the screen at an angle, can you see faint traces of the correct display? If so the backlight has gone south...

Thank you for the suggestion - i tried checking this and i can't see any trace of the correct display. I have also tried replacing the whole screen (including the full screen assembly) and it did not make a difference!

The eDP cable is the one that goes from the motherboard to the display. Often the touchscreen and camera wiring is included. If you have the tools you could ohm out the wires to make sure none are broken. Since that cable is flexed each time to change the screen position it can develop cracks in the wires.

Unfortunately i don't have the means to test this. Also this laptop actually has two two ribbons which attach to two locations on the motherboard. The ribbons are part of the screen assembly so when i tried the replacement screen, it was using new cables (you can see what i meann here: https://www.ebay.ca/i/293802841552?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=706-89093-2056-0&mkcid=2&itemid=293802841552&targetid=885167349563&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9000694&poi=&campaignid=9561945102&mkgroupid=98506997979&rlsatarget=pla-885167349563&abcId=1063836&merchantid=116249613&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjMGHy42u7QIVFk2GCh1w1gjAEAQYAyABEgKzyfD_BwE ) .

i am wondering if there is something affecting the connectors on the motherboard or their connection to the video card (assuming this is what they connect to). I suppose i would have to replace the motherboard if this is the case. I wish i could somehow connect the laptop screen to its hdmi slot, as the hdmi slot works.

I went back in to look and i noticed there is some blackening in one of the corners of where the right ribbon attaches to the motherboard (the blackness is on the motherboard). I guess if this is somehow burnt out, then there is not much which can be done.

Blackening is not a good sign... :( Anything with enough current to create carbon has enough heat to remove solder, and typically is caused by something not always physically at the black location.
