I was thinking replacing the HDD with a SSD if possible for my son's desktop.    Any other recommendations that make sense is much appreciated.

The Acer N50-100 can be upgraded in lots of ways, it all depends on your budget? Lets start with ram, it can handle a max ram capacity of 64GB at DDR4-2666MHz, so you can choose from either 4GB, 8GB to 16GB (depends on your budget?) and what you have in the ram slots now? If you have 1x 4GB and 1x 8GB to total 12GB then you can buy another 8GB of the same ram so that you have and match that to give you 16GB, if you want more then use 2 or 4 x 8GB sticks or the 2 or 4x 16GB of equal speed/timing and preferably manufacturer but, it has to be of equal speeds and timings, its up to you.

With SSD it can take a 2.5 inch SATA-3/6GB/sec or a SATA/M.2 also in combination in these slots. With the CPU you can upgrade your OEM Ryzen 5 2500X to the higher spec Ryzen 7 2700 that has 8 cores/16 threads/3.2 to 4.1GH/4MB L2 cache/16MB l3 cache and 65W TDP (Thermal Design Power) which is the same as your OEM Ryzen 5 2500X TDP. You can also upgrade its GPU graphics card to a GTX 1660Ti or the 1660 SUPER but and in doing all these upgrades, you will have to upgrade the power supply to at least a 650W type PS as the GPU cards of that spec need a 450W PS.

All these upgrades will give you a considerable improvement in performance and will make your NITRO 50 N50-100 a very competent gaming and extensive graphic platform, its up to you and your budget.

Thanks for the reply.  I think for now the hard drive and I can do another stick of Ram.  I guess I'm have to open it up to see which one.  Is there a particular hard drive you would suggest.  I guess I need one with cloning software for easy duplication
