Hi all,

I got this laptop brand new yesterday and installed a few games. When I was playing off world trading company (so not a particularly modern game) and checking predator sense I noticed the cpu temp was hopping around the high 80s and on one occasion went to a max temp of 94oC.

I switched the game off to avoid any damage and it cooled down and seemed to idle around 55oC. I’m not the most tech savvy, so haven’t altered any settings; the fans are set on auto. I was playing with the laptop on a flat surface.

This just seemed alarmingly high to me. Is there something I should be doing to keep the temperature down? Does anyone know what is an acceptable temperature range for this laptop, as I seem to be finding various answers online.

Thank you very much in advance for your help! And please let me know any more info I should be providing.

What are the average temps. Spikes to 94 are normal but average shouldnt be higher than 80-85.
    Thanks for your quick reply!

Average is 85 so the upper end of okay. I’m conscious I wasn’t playing for that long either. The fans were never at full speed mind so could manually adjust that.

I was just unsure if this was potentially a fault as it’s only 2 days old.
U can raise the back of the laptop by a few inches it will reduce temps by 3-5 degrees. Undervolting will also help a lot. What are ur gpu temps?

I dont see a need to undervolt the gpu but yes u can. I tried it but it reduced the clock speeds for me(weird( so i had to overclock+undervolt.

Okay, maybe ignore me... I’ve just found the FAQ on this forum. I’ll try manually keeping the fan speed higher to keep temperatures down when gaming and see where it gets me.

Not my most successful first ever post!

Undervolting won’t have too negative an impact then? I’d be interested in trying it if it’ll help!

Im not the most tech savvy but willing to try it out. Thanks for your help.

I had a look online and tried undervolting with ThrottleStop. At first glance, this seems to have made an immediate noticeable differece but haven't had the chance to fully test it out yet. Thank you for you help!

GPU temps had one weird spike at 80oC but never went near that again. It was around 65 - 70oC. Is undervolting the GPU a good idea or not in your opinion? Seems to be mixed messages when I was searching.

Might hold off on it as undervolting the cpu alone seems to have done wonders. Thank you so much for your help!
