Aspire 5 secure wifi connection no internet access

My Aspire 5 loses internet access when it has been inactive, usually overnight for example.   It doesn't always connect to my home network, but even if it does, it doesn't have internet access. Sometimes I get it back if I restart, but often I have to switch my modem off and on again, which takes ages. My wifi connection is working for all other devices. Apologies in advance, I'm not at all IT competent when it comes to troubleshooting!

Open DeviceManager. Click network adapters folder. Right click wifi adapter properties. Click on 'power mgt' tab. Uncheck the box to allow PC to turn off wifi. Jack E/NJ

Thanks Jack.  I thought I'd already tried this, but when I went in the box was checked.  I've unchecked it now, so hopefully that will solve the problem.  I'll let you know.

I've still had to restart a few times, but haven't had to reset the modem, so that's an improvement!  Anything else I can try do you think?

Open DeviceManager. Click network adapters folder. Right click wifi adapter properties. Click on 'advanced' tab. Click preferred band. First try changing no preference to 2.4GHz. Jack E/NJ

Nope, had to restart again after leaving the laptop unused for an hour or so.

Hi again and thanks for your help and patience.  I'm still having to restart, but haven't had to reset the modem. It's definitely an improvement but still a bit frustrating.
