What may be wrong if battery led is flashing every two seconds?

After a heavy water spilling on the keyboard, the laptop took a little time to shutdown automatically. I disassembled it, dried it with a hairdryer for quite some time, and assembled it again. 
The laptop does not start without the AC plug connected. And if is disconnected while running, doesn't matter if battery shows 99% charged, the laptop shuts down instantly. While on, the orange battery led flashes every 2 sec.
What may be the problem?

You didn’t tell us if the laptop functions and operates normally while the AC plug is connected? If only "the orange battery led flashes every 2 sec" when the battery is plugged in then it’s the battery, which means that the battery has shortened out and needs replacing, it doesn’t matter if it shows “99% available” charge as that is not an exact guide of the battery charge as its unreliable. Also, you can get a voltmeter and measure your batteries condition and charge exactly and more accurately. Try that first and let us know.
