Internal Camera not detected by Aspire M5-583P-9688

The forum field was not allowing me to select Laptops, so I've placed this question here.
This laptop does not detect the internal camera.  I went into Device Manager, and it's not there.
When I try to run the camera app, I get this error.
Thank you in advance for any help to resolve this.

    I'm assuming it used to work and has failed... There really isn't a lot to it, the camera module sits just above the display and connects to the motherboard (I believe) inside the eDP cable which also have the display signal wires. Sometimes over time the wires develop cracks from flexing each time you open the laptop, less often the wires pull loose at either end and sometimes the module itself fails. Your laptop is old enough I don't think there's any way it's still in warranty. Replacing the module is a fairly big job, because so many other things have to come out in order to get to it. The module itself is cheap, however. If the problem is the eDP cable it's also a big job for the same reason. If the eDP is going you will likely start seeing display glitches when you open or close the screen. Easiest by far is to just pick up and external webcam and use it.
