Hi everyone!

I have tried to use an Adata XDG SX6000 Lite (NVMe disk). It plugged easily, but the OS wouldn't recognize it (I'm using Manjaro Linux 20). I then read this post, and found out that I should use a SATA disk. Nevertheless, all the M.2 SATA disks I have found online seem to have a different set of connectors to the ones I see in my motherboard.

Connectors in my motherboard:
Connectors I see in SATA M.2 HDs:
Are they compatible? The NVMe disk I bought has the exact connector combination I see in the motherboard though.

Thanks!
Alan

Your mainboard socket with a single M-key should fit and accept either an NVME card with a single M-key slot or SATA m.2 card with an M-key slot plus a B-key slot.

The NVME cards however can be a bit more troublesome than SATA cards in some systems. The first thing you should do is F2 at startup into the BIOS menu and see if the NVME card shows up in the BIOS INFORMATION tab. If you don't see it described in this tab then it's possible that the card is not installed correctly in the m.2 socket.

    Hi Jack,

Thanks for your answer. Indeed, the NVME card does not show up in the INFORMATION tab of the BIOS. I have thoroughly pushed the card in the socket to no avail. I guess the card might be malfunctioning.

    Thanks,

    Hi @AlanC
M.2 NVMe SSD is not compatible with this model, you have to use a M.2 SATA SSD.

Agree with brummyfan2   While nvme  cards should be backward compatible that fit the socket, many aren't. I suggest downloading hwinfo64 freeware to see if a mainboard PCIe buss supports 2x or 4x link widths. If only 1x, you're better off using a plain vanilla SATA m.2 like the WesternDigital green SATA image that you posted earlier. Jack E/NJ

    Hi all!

Thanks a lot for your quick and thorough help. The SATA drive worked flawlessly. I am yet to run a Linux equivalent to hwinfo64 to double check on the PCI bus to double check on the other drive.
