I struggle to get above 25 fps while i play Far Cry 3, a game which my system can run. Ive seen online benchmarks reach up to 60 fps on highest settings with my own specs (while i still get 25 on lowest). I made sure i set my power plan to highest performance, made sure the application is running on my dedicated GPU, configured NVDIA settings for maximum performance but i fail to get a smooth gaming experience. I am also playing the game while  is the charger is plugged in and at 100%
Note that this does not only happen with Far Cry 3 but with almost every game i attept to play.

what is the % of GPU while playing?
is this happening in the very beginning of the game session or few minutes later? i am thinking at some kind of a thermal throttling.

Well it looks like my GPU is at 95 - 99% usage
CPU usage (if it matters) is at 20 - 30% @75 - 85 degrees celsius
And this happens as soon as I start playing the game

if the gpu stays at constant 95-99%, i think there is not much you can do. maybe, what you have seen on youtube was a different gear, i do not know.

Could this perhaps be a manufacturing default? If so, would applying for warranty be advisable?

are you saying that the manufacturer have capped the performance to a lower level?
it might be possible, due to the cooling restrictions.
this is not a case for warranty claim. but to be sure, get in touch with someone who has the same machine as yours, or at least the same video card and compare the results. to have a fair comparison, also consider other variables too (RAM, video RAM, GPU freq, etc.)
