Acer Firmware driver Aspire 5 A515-52G-57VG.

I reinstalled Windows 10 recently and noticed that the Acer firmware did not show up on Windows update like before. When I go to device manager and under firmware, it shows system firmware, instead of Acer Inc. System Firmware... (look at the image in the link: community.acer.com/en/discussion/566219/sf314-54-bios-uefi-firmware-update-1-11-from-insyde-software-windows-auto-installed-it-but) Where can I download and install it so that my device manager will show Acer Inc. System Firmware...? I have Aspire 5 A515-52G-57VG.

I know precisely where and how it would appear if windows update installs a BIOS update for you --- since my first comment.

This question I am asking is that why you kept bringing it up when it does not matter to the OP's situation.

Since windows update is always months and months later than Acer's website, you should always apply the BIOS from the Acer's website first. So your situation should never occur in the first place.

Everything is possible, but is it probable? The OP not only checked Windows update, he also checked Microsoft update catalog. You are continually making needless arguments when the OP already accepted the most simple and logical answer.

Hi,
Could you please go to Device Manager, expand Firmware and post the snip, I would suggest not to update BIOS unless you have a problem which can be solved by BIOS update, I also like to see the current BIOS version.
Updating BIOS is going to be different in future, it's going to be done through Windows Update due to many users having bricked up their laptops due to BIOS update.

I shall give u the information you need tonight. What is posting the snip? I am talking about the firmware, not bios, unless they are the same.

OK, go to Device manager, expand Firmware, take a snip using Snipping tool and save as a picture, then post here using Attach image button in the reply header, yes, Firmware and BIOS both are same.

Here is the screenshot of the device manager and my bios version. Plus, I want to download the firmware from here www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=acer%20firmware%202020 but when I installed it, it gets me the code 10 error.

Hi,
You have the latest BIOS and no need for an update, if you want to check it in Device manager, right click System Firmware, select Properties and check the version in Driver tab.

The firmware version under firmware in the device manager. 10.0.19041.1. It states that provider is Microsoft but I want it to say Acer Inc. System Firmware... just like in the screenshot you provided. How to have that on mine?

I advise you to disable the firmware driver. It is the best option. now, check if the firmware driver is showing in OPTIONAL UPDATES.

So that the firmware driver does not update the bios automatically. Go to settings, update and security, click check for updates, optional updates.

You realize that there is no actual problem. If you click the drivers detail, it will say no files are necessary. All the files are in the motherboard bios chip already, so it gives a dummy name and dummy version number because the Windows 10 OS doesn't have to do anything.

What's your point?

The OP has newer (or the same) version of bios as windows update --- so there is no bios update necessary via windows update. Therefore the OP has a dummy generic version number.

About error code 10, this may be occurring, because he must be downloading the firmware driver of another model.

@Joe9844I know that the OP accepted your answer. I also wouldn't worry about updating the firmware driver. I just wanted to show that there may be a newer version of the firmware driver in the Windows Update settings. The name SYSTEM FIRMWARE is fictitious, as you said earlier and it does not interfere with the performance of the machine.

It is now possible for windows update to provide an update to the latest bios before it is available on the Acer website. Now, I know it has nothing to do with the OP question, but I always choose to disable the firmware driver, so that windows update does not update the bios:

The chances of some driver or some bios showing up on windows update before Microsoft Update Catalog is basically zero. The OP already checked MUC.

You kept giving answers that makes zero sense. The OP asked how to get that "item" on device manager, you answered that the OP should disabled firmware update. Then you told the OP, after disabling firmware update, to update the firmware update via optional update in windows update. Then you finally told what your own position is --- disable firmware update and never allow firmware update via windows update or optional update.

You don't even have a consistent answer to argue on --- yet you kept on arguing on the issue (even after the OP has accepted my answer).

@Joe9844 OK! I don't think you understood what I said earlier. I will show you an example. See that on the acer website, version 1.31 of the bios is not shown:

Now, see that the microsoft catalog offers version 1.31 of the bios for the model a715-74g: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=5.23.1.31

Yes, it is possible that the catalog has a more recent version of the bios, without being available on the Acer website, for that specific model. I will stop here.
