Acer K243y Won't Work With Displayport to HDMI Adapter

I recently purchased 3 of these monitors. On one computer I have the Acer and an Onn monitor. Another computer that has two of the Acers. On both computers the Acer will work through regualr HDMI. However, since I have limited HDMI ports on each computer I need to use a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. None of the Acer monitors will work with the adapter. My Onn monitor will work with the adapter just fine though. Is this a limitation of the Acer monitors. Do I need an active or passive adapter for these monitors? I thought that the need of active or passive was based on the abilities of the computer/graphics card.

Is the adapter you have a HDMI to DP or a DP to HDMI? There is a big difference, both in function and cost.
