Hi,
I have this Aspire ES1-531-C4AY and the problem is that the hhd does not appear in the bios by any circumstances. I've try to change the hhd but still doesn't show up on bios. All the inserted hhd are in GPT but still it doesn't detect any of them. So now I'm wondering is it my hhd slot which is faulty or is there any other solution to this. Any help will be very much appreciable and thanks in advance.
Cheers.

Do the HDDs show up in the BIOS INFORMATION tab? If they don't show up in the INFORMATION tab, the HDDs are either disconnected,  not getting power, failed or the mainboard has an issue. Jack E/NJ

The HDDs does not show up on BIOS INFORMATION tab but all the HDDs are working fine. Thus might be a motherboard issue because the HDDs are well seated and spinning.

How do you know they are working fine? Have you tried accessing them on another machine? Jack E/NJ

Yes surely, I have tested all the HDDs on another machine before using them on the Acer Aspire.

Then it does seem like a mainboard SATA3 bus failure. Does gparted see the HDDs when they're connected? Diskpart? Jack E/NJ

No gparted does not detect the HDDs either. So likely can be the mainboard SATA3 bus failure. Although is there any technical solution???

  • When you change sata mode to ahci in bios, does the same problem occur?

Well unfortunately this Aspire ES1-531 does not have that option.

If you can still boot into a Windows environment from a USB drive, you could try to flash the BIOS just in case the firmware has somehow been corrupted. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/6061?b=1

Firstly before I am going to try flashing the bios, is it possible that corrupted firmware could cause undetected HDD on the bios even though everything else work, no error message or black screen, etc...??? It's just that I am trying to be caution before doing anything stupid.

Short of doing a solder reflow or  making absolutely sure your HDD is secure in the mainboard socket, I can't think of anything else to try except a BIOS update. Jack E/NJ
