Finding Windows 10x64 drivers for Veriton X4610G

I have done a clean install of Windows 10 (64 bit) on my Acer Veriton X4610G although the system runs, a few things need to be sorted out.

Device manager shows an unrecognized PCI device. Windows Update can't fix it. It looks like the chipset drivers are missing.
The internal Hard Disk Drive (HDD) WD Green Caviar WD10EADX shows up as removable hardware. It has an old driver, Driver Details:
Provider: Microsoft
Version: 10.0.19041.1
Date: 6/21/2006
The currently active AHCI driver is also from Microsoft, dated 2006.

The latest drivers Acer Support offers are for Windows 8 (64 bit).

Questions:

A. Could the latest by Acer provided Chipset Driver (Date: 2017/01/16, Version: 9.3.0.1021, Vendor: Intel) be used to install in Windows 10, or would that mess things up?
OR
B. Intel nor its Driver and Support Assistent (SA) show downloads for the Intel Q65 chipset. I did manage to find Intel Server Chipset Drivers for Windows Intel® Server Boards legacy Intel drivers (Version: 10.1.17903.8106, Date: 1/29/2019), that cover Microsoft Windows* 10 x64 drivers for the 6th Generation Intel® Core™ processor family / Intel® C200 series chipset family. Could they be used to install in Windows 10, or would they mess things up?
Any idea if its important to and by what to update the WDC WD10EADX-22TDHB0 Driver?
Could the latest by Acer provided SATA AHCI Driver (Date: 2011/04/28, Version: 10.1.0.100, Vendor: Intel) for Windows 7x64, be used to install in Windows 10, or would that mess things up?
Are Windows 8x64 generally usable in Windows 10 (I can see some newer Serial IO, VGA and Card reader Drivers)?

For all people reading this topic, here's what I ultimately did.

My suggested course of action in order to sort out the problems that were stated in the opening topic are:

Device manager shows an unrecognized PCI device. Windows Update can't fix it. It looks like the chipset drivers are missing.

The missing device has to do with the Intel ME (Management Engine), which is heavily vulnerable. You needn't install a driver for it. I updated to the lastly provided ME Firmware by ACER (version ME_7.1.91.3272_20170516), which is better but afterwards the system is still vulnerable to Intel-SA-00086. Furthermore unconfigure the management engine as much a possible. Remove the default password and replace it by your own! That's the most you can and hopefully should suffice.

This is a BIOS problem. It doesn't allow you to configure hotswapping behaviour of the internal SATA drive. All SATA drive are by nature capable of hot swapping. I did manage to find a partial work-around by tweaking the registry, but that doesn't completely solve the problem (it removes the drives from the list, but doesn't get rid of the empty list).

The currently active AHCI driver is also from Microsoft, dated 2006.

Stick with the default Windows 10 driver. Intel didn't release Win 10 drivers for their AHCI controller.

That's how you can propel your Acer Veriton X4610G into the 2020'ies with Windows 10 (build 2004).
Enjoy your Acer Veriton X4610G for many years to come.

Give us a caption of your “Device Manager” and what items are in conflict? As most of these drivers are on the Acer Update Veriton X4610G site here: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/617738/finding-windows-10x64-drivers-for-veriton-x4610g#latest in the “Driver” section. Don’t worry about compatibility as all the drivers will be updated as necessary by Win-10. If your Veriton X4610G works properly then don’t try to fix something that isn’t broke.

Also, use the “Intel Driver & Support Assistant” software to see if any Intel drivers e.g. chipset, graphics, HDD or any drivers that needs to be updated, it will notify you that you need a new driver and in Intel drivers case, it will download the appropriate drivers, simple! If you need e.g. Realtek or NVIDIA then check on their appropriate sites for their newer drivers.Don’t go searching for drivers from either Intel or any other manufacturer as you could download and install the wrong drivers especially with your spinner HDD’s driver and BIOS update flash, btw make sure that you have the latest BIOS version.

The HDD driver in “Device Manager“ which you have for your WDC WD10EADX-22TDHB0 the “Microsoft Version: 10.0.19041.1 Date: 6/21/2006” is the appropriate driver for that spinner HDD, as I have the same driver for my Toshiba MK7559GSXP (spinner HDD) in “Device Manager” and I’m using that as Disk-1 (Slave) in “Disk Management” and it works perfectly with the latest Win-10 v2004/OS built 19041.508 with that same driver and is/has worked for years.

Remember “Windows Update” will download all the appropriate derivers first for your Win-10 and to all of your Veriton X4610G’s hardware and software that it needs and if and like in your case you get any “Device Manager” conflicts then install the Acer OEM drivers that Acer provides for your Veriton X4610G, as that will fix these “Device Manager” conflicted drivers.

Thanks for your reply. I'm trying to get my machine running optimally before piling back on loads of software and data (then things will get much trickier to fix).

1 B. As I understand it hardware INF drivers are needed to let Windows recognize the hardware in the machine. Im running the “Intel Driver & Support Assistant” (DSA) software, but that doesn't install chipset (hardware INF) drivers nor Intel® Desktop Board drivers according to its list of exclusions. It reports no updates, but is the Q65 Series 6 chipset still supported now that it is discontinued. I can't find any downloads manual at Intel either.

I'm running the latest BIOS firmware that was published by Acer Support: Date: 2012/11/12, Version: P01.B3, Vendor: Acer, Size: 2.0 MB.

The suggested course of action is to install the manufacturers AHCI driver. As Intel is the manufacturer should't it be running Intel's driver? Acer Support only provides an AHCI driver up-to Win7x64 (SATA AHCI Driver, Date: 2011/04/28, Version: 10.1.0.100, Vendor: Intel). The current Microsoft driver is much older (2006). I also see some performance degradation:

3. Acer only provide drivers up to Win8x64 or older like Win7x64. Should the latest by Acer provided SATA AHCI Driver (Date: 2011/04/28, Version: 10.1.0.100, Vendor: Intel) for Windows 7x64, be used to install in Windows 10 as per your advise, or would that mess things up?

4. How would I get all the nifty things back in Windows 10? like:

VGA_Intel_8.15.10.2253_W7x64 (includes Intel(R) Display Audio, which allows to send audio as well as video over HDMI to a TV)
LAN_Intel_11.8.74.0_W7x86x64 (contains an SNMP agent)
Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.6242_W7x86x64

It links back to this page. Did you mean the Acer Support page for the X4610G, which doesn't contain Windows 10x64 drivers?

@StevenGen Q65 chipset is discontinued, so IDSA won't work on it.

Marty11 install the chipset and graphics drivers from the Acer site, as there could be a conflict with the driver and the software was not installed properly. I’ve had this problem with “Other Devices” in “Device Manager” and all I did to fix this problem is installed the OEM Acer driver and that fixed the problem, try that.

The latest AHCI driver that is available on the Acer Sussort site is a Windows 7 x64 one: “AHCI_Intel_10.1.0.1008_W7x86x64”. It is of later date (2010-11-21) than the currently installed driver. Strangely enough in the Windows 8x64 drivers, there is no AHCI driver listed. So what have Windows 8 users been using? Will the old Win 7 driver work in Windows 10x64 or is it more likely to mess things up even more?
