Veriton M4630G will not boot from Samsung 970 EVO NVMe SSD installed on StarTech x4 PCI Express to M.2 PCIe SSD Adapter. The drive is readable from Windows but the BIOS does not recognize it and will not boot from it. Is a BIOS mod required to make this happen? Has anyone tried this procedure on this model? http://blog.techquility.net/booting-to-samsung-970-evo-nvme-m-2-ssd-on-asus-b85m-g-motherboard/

Yes, that's normal. Very few PCIe card support booting from them. The few that do have their own BIOS on the card, and they tend to be expensive. Your workaround is to have the UEFI partition on the HDD, but have it point to the system partition on the SSD for the mount point. The EFI load will be slower than with it directly on the SSD, but the OS will load quickly.
