Not sure if its the right forum but can anyone help with with this?

I have connected old monitor with HDMI to VGA adapter to my helios 300 (PH315-52)
I can Use "Second monitor only" but Extend or duplicate gives me black screen of death
I.e. I can only use either of them at a time
The fact that I can use second monitor only may ensure its not one of connection issue
Refresh rate is set at 60 Hz for both and resolution is same

I have updated both Nvidia and intel drivers and it still doesn't detect second monitor
display properties show Intel 620 and Nvidia 1660ti for laptop and secondary monitor respectively.
Nvidia control panel only shows second monitor with duplicate projection on (black screen) else In PC only projection, Nvidia Panel doesn't show any display)
Intel control panel only shows internal display

What could be the fix? Am I missing something ?

I'm guessing the HDMI to VGA adapter isn't doing something right when the computer asks it's capabilities. HDMI standard requires the monitor do plug'n'play to describe the modes it supports, and the typical adapters give a list that may or may not be correct.
