On AC power, Aspire E5-576g will not resume from screen power timer or sleep timer

Laptop runs Windows 10 1909 with all Acer & Microsoft updates applied. When on battery power, laptop turns off screen and goes to sleep from timers, and will wake back up again from touchpad or space bar as expected. On AC power, system will not enter sleep from timer (but it will if lid is closed or Sleep command used from Start button), and once the screen turns off from timer, after a few minutes it will not respond to touchpad, space bar, or light touch on power. The only thing that works at that point is to press and hold power to shut off, then turn back on again (thereby losing any open windows etc).

Things I've tried:
Disabled hibernation mode, hard disk power management, Link State Power Management from PCI Express advanced power options, network adapter power management, USB controller power management, video adapter power management.
Disconnected all external devices.
Downloaded and re-ran Intel UHD 620 driver from Acer (I had the same version installed, just ran the installer on top).
Tried installing driver from Intel downloads (as it was a newer version than Acer's version) but got an error saying it wasn't compatible or needs OEM version.

The problem *only* happens when on AC power. I can work around the sleep timer issue by closing the lid, but the unresponsiveness to the screen going dark is a deal-breaker. Incidentally, my computer can be accessed remotely by my IT technician, and when the screen goes dark while on AC power and loses its ability to be resumed, the remote access disconnects as well, leading me to believe it's entering some sort of suspended state.

Anyone have a clue why this is happening or how to resolve?
