Hello!
As the title says, I have a Predator Helios 300 RTX 2060 model PH315-52-7210 and want to connect two external monitors to it. Both monitors are HDMI, and therefore I need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but there are two types of such adapters: active and passive, depending if the notebooks Mini DisplayPort supports dual mode (DP++). I couldn't find this info anywhere, including the user manual. I contacted Acer US support through the online chat, and was informed that this info also wasn't in their support manual for my device.
Does anyone know the answer to this? Has anyone tried or has a passive adapter to test it?
Where I live the active adapter is 5 times more expensive than the passive one, so knowing that I can buy the passive or not instead of gambling if I can would be very much appreciated!
Thank you.

    Hi,

I have a PH315-53-72XD, so I guess we probably have the same DP port. I have tried a couple of cheaper mini dp to hdmi adapters and I haven't had any luck, the pc doesn't recognize the monitors at all. I did manage to get it working with a cheap mini dp to vga adapter, which is less than ideal, but at least it works.
The active ones are 7-10x more expensive here, so let me know if you get it working with one of those.

I am having the same problem with my minidisplay port. I have an Amazon Basics minidp to hdmi adapter and the monitor does not see the signal. Have either of you fixed this problem?

@axmf55 Thank you for sharing your experience! I got another answer in the pt-br acer community and it did not work for that person also.
Thankfully I didn't buy a passive adapter because that would have been a waste of money...
After getting used to gaming in the laptops 144Hz screen, I just ended up buying a new 144Hz monitor so the adapter is no longer needed.

@Hover_Demon I'm not familiar with your particular adapter, but if it didn't work my best guess is that you have a cheap passive adapter when this laptop requires a (more expansive) active one.

After some testing, I think these are our options:

If you want to connect an HDMI monitor, you can only use the HDMI port or a docking station with Display Link. This is a link to the official display link supported devices page, so I guess any of those should be good to connect a second HDMI monitor using a usb port (you have with USB-A and USB-C).

The USB-C port doesn't seem to support hdmi output, so any passive adapters won't work.

The mini DP can be used with display port monitors and can also be used with mini-dp to vga adapters (I have a cheap, passive, mini dp to vga adapter working fine).

    Hope this helps!
