so I don't totally know what I'm doing, but I'm trying to learn. I recently bought aspire 3 Laptop - A315-55G-59LS
I then bought Crucial P2 500GB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD - CT500P2SSD8

What i've gathered is that this M.2 would replace the 256GB that's already in there. Which means i'd have to clone the computer. Do I have to clone it tho even if I haven't personalized it and downloaded my files etc?

As I was trying to learn and follow youtube videos, I discovered that this M.2 does fit in where one would put a SATA. What does this mean? Can I put the M.2 there? Would i still have to clone? would I then have the original 256 plus the new 500GB? My understanding is that if I buy a SATA I would have essentially 756.

Should I return this M.2 and get a SATA?

thanks for explaining everything to me!

Firstly and with M.2 and cloning your OS, it depends what you want to do and use your M.2 for? Do you want your Win-10 on your new M.2? Or just use it as a slave? If your Win-10 is on the 2.5 inch HDD then you can close your OS onto your M.2 without an adaptor (but after you clone, you have to remove the 2.5 inch HDD for it to boot from the M.2) but if your Win-10 is on an M.2 (like the 256GB) then you need to clone your OS onto your new Crucial P2 500GB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD - CT500P2SSD8 with an M.2 NVME SSD to USB 3.1 Adapter, you can buy these from either eBay or Amazon pretty cheaply.

The A315-55G-59LS can have the following upgrades, you have a single RAM DIMM slot that fits 16GB of DDR4 memory max, as well as a 2.5″ SATA drive slot for a HDD or SSD and an M.2 slot on the right side of the battery that supports NVMe drives. Replace the OEM M.2 with your new Crucial P2 500GB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD - CT500P2SSD8 that replaces the 256GB that's already in there. So your A315-55G-59LS can have 1x 2.5 inch HDD or SSD and 1x M2 NVMe and have 1x stick of max 16GB of DDR4-2400Mhz and up to 2666MHz ram, simple.
