I am pretty inexperienced with doing pc upgrades and stuff but i wanna add an ssd that has more space and is faster for gaming. I was going to buy the Samsung 860 EVO at first, which im sure would have worked but i saw that the 960 was on sale and is similar in price so i figured why not go better. Any help is much appreciated!

The 7th gen G3-710 models support an M.2 drive that's SATA 3.0, not an NVMe drive. Samsung is a good choice, but I believe all the 970 EVO Plus are NVMe. They do make a 860 SATA though.
