The 0xc0000098 error appears when there is a corrupted Boot Configuration Data file. Windows won’t allow you to boot, rendering your device useless. This error can be caused from hardware errors, such as a damaged hard drive or bad RAM, so after fixing this with the solution below, it’s good to see if these two components are all good.

Start PC, just as Windows attempts to load, press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

    Do this twice

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt . . . etc.
Then try each option one at a time, then see of Windows will boot . . .

    • Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Repair, see if Windows startup can repair itself
    • Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - System Restore, check to see if you have a restore point you can go back to
    • If you do not have a Restore Point, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Settings and click Restart
    • Upon restart, press 4 to enter Safe Mode
    • Once in Safe Mode, backup your data if you do not already have a backup
    • Open Device Manager and check to make sure all your Drivers are up to date
    • Reboot to see if Windows will start Normally

If the above fails, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Options - Reset this PC. Choose to keep your files and apps, just your files or to keep nothing,
    then start the "Reset".

My system does not boot when I want to enter other sections. When I try to turn on the laptop, it gives this error and does not allow Windows to work. I am stuck in this part of the recovery system. This page is the first thing my system shows.  I also have these options according to the picture above

Try these steps in this order:
    1. "System Restore" which allows you to go back to a previous restore point
    2. If that doesn’t work use the "Startup Repair" which should fix your Win-10 startup
    3. If all that doesn’t work then try “Go back to a previous version”

If all that doesn’t work then you have to go into “UEFI Firmware Settings” and change the BIOS at “Boot” to boot from a USB and then use the “Windows 10 Installation” USB and either try the same from the USB or reinstall Win-10.

In future you should always backup your Win-10 operating system with a backup software like Macrium Reflect v7 that has its own “WIN-PE USB” so you are able to boot the Macrium Reflect v7 software and allows you to restore the exact backup of your Win-10 that you have backed up onto an external drive, this is essential if you value your data and don’t want this hassel again, I’ve been doing this for many years.

Press and hold the power button till the machine shuts off. About 5-10 seconds. Then turn the machine back on and immediately start tapping the F2 key to enter the BIOS menu. Please post a phoneshot of the BIOS Information & Boot tabs if possible. Jack E/NJ

Looks good so far. Please check BIOS Main tab and make sure the F12 and D2D options are enabled. Then exit and save settings. Then press and hold the power button till the machine shuts off again. Then remove the charger. Then press and hold a paperclip into the battery reset pinhole on the bottom of the machine for 30-60 seconds. Then plug the charger back in but don't try to turn the machine back on till the battery charge LED turns from steady orange to steady blue. May take several hours if battery was below 50%. Try to turn it on. If you still get the same message, then the HDD/SSD needs to be reseated a few times in its mainboard connections to help clean the contacts. Jack E/NJ

Which boot should I choose (legacy or uefi) to install the new Windows and which should first prioritize? I want to do this from a Windows installation CD.

Yes UEFI mode for Windows10.  If the F12 boot option is enabled in the BIOS Main tab, you can leave the boot priority order the way it is. Just tap F12 key when you turn the machine on and a menu will come up to allow you to choose the CDRom Win10 installation disk. Jack E/NJ
