I have an Acer cb5-311. It used to work just fine but one day it just stopped charging.  It only works when plugged in.  I've gone through some troubleshooting steps including making sure the charging port was secure and also removing the battery cable and putting it back in but neither of these solutions have yielded positive results.  Does this mean that my battery has gone bad? Thank you for your time

IIRC your system  has a tiny little battery reset hole under the laptop. Disconnect your power and use a bent paperclip or something similar to push and hold the button behind that hole. Hold the button down for 15-39 seconds. Next wait 15-30 minutes and plug the charger in, but don't turn it on yet. Wait until it indicated the battery is fully charged and turn it on. See if that help. That process deals with the situations where the data the battery keeps stored is corrupted and starts it over again with better numbers.
