Acer Nitro XV240Y capping me at 30hz in game

I recently bought a Acer Nitro XV240Y since I saw a decent deal. I set it up with my 2014 y50  and it works fine until I started up Valorant. For some reason, I get 120hz on the monitor (HDMI) with my settings at 'windowed fullscreen' but I get capped at 30hz in 'fullscreen'. I noticed the monitor switches to 3840 x 2160 resolution when I go 'fullscreen' which makes sense that I get 30hz but I have the game in 1920 x 1080 resolution 120hz in the settings? What is causing it to go to a higher resolution?

Update: I can't seem to find an auto calibration option for the monitor. I figured if I could find that I could keep the resolution at 1920x1080. Where is this option?!

Send the monitor back and sue the company, Its not a 144hz monitor as advertised  it only goes to 120hz before its tops out and flickers or has horrible frame drops
