Why is my Nitro AN515-54 putting large dpi files on my laptop?

I am using WD external hd which is the same hd I used on my last laptop which I cannot remember what is was except it was an HP. I have my laptop to backup laptop once a week and file history once an hour. It is the same settings I used on my last laptop. WD uses a folder to put the backups in and labels it WD backup. Now I am getting extremely large dpi backup files and I do not know why. For a week I accumulated 736GB of files. I am tired of deleting them because deleting that large of files will eventually damage the hd. I talked to Acer support and they could not help. They kept telling me to format the hd and start over and I am not doing that.
