Should I upgrade my Acer Aspire E5-473G to SSD or just buy a new laptop?

My acer Aspire E 14 has become very slow. I use it daily for work, mostly for Photoshop and web browsing and sometimes video editing, but the lag has become too much. It's only intel i3, 4gb ddr3 L, 2gb dedicated vram.

Can i just add ssd and will it be sufficient to improve the laptop's performance?
If not, and I'd have to buy a new one, can i remove the HDD from the Aspire and put it in the new laptop?

Thanks in advance!

    If you are using Win-10 then it would be a sensible update? As updating to a 2.5 inch SATA 3 - 6Gb/s type SSD and also updating the ram from its 4GB OEM to its max of 16GB (which I strongly recommend) with a 16GB Kit of 2 x 8GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM (which will make it run in dual channel also) will make it more responsive and will quicken your systems boot and stop that annoying lag (from its spinner HDD) that you are talking about but, it won’t make your system as good as buying a new laptop with a superior cpu, ram and graphics specs, which the current laptops have, it all depends on what you want and your budget, as even todays lower budget laptops could be of lower specs than what you will have with your Aspire E5-473G upgraded with an SSD and RAM. One thing, upgrading the SSD and RAM will be the cheapest way for an upgrade of your Acer Aspire E5-473G to keep up, that’s it.

    Hey thanks for the immediate reply! Yes I updated to windows 10. I am very new to this, so I really appreciate your explanation and for mentioning specific items.

    I am looking up online for the items you mentioned.
    Memory = https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0145WDNF2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A23AD5LOJUVSEP&psc=1
    SSD = https://www.amazon.com/Inland-Professional-480GB-Internal-Solid/dp/B07BD32RLK/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=2.5+inch+SATA+3+-+6Gb%2Fs+type+SSD&qid=1598791455&sr=8-5

    Are these the right items? I found these on amazon, but I just plan to buy locally and have them installed in a repair shop.

    Yes, the RAM DDR3L 1600MHz PC3L and the SSD 480GB SSD 3D NAND SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5" will fit and is what I’m talking about! Also when you change the 2.5 inch SSD use “Macrium Reflect v7 Free Version” to clone ("clone" means copy exactly your data especially your boot Win-10 OP) of your existing HDD’s boot data of Win-10 operating system and all the personal files that you have onto the new SSD. But make sure that everything works 100% on the new SSD before you format and/or you discard your old spinner HDD as an external drive just for security, as these old spinner HDD’s are a very good drive to be made into external HDD’s (buy a caddy with a USB 3.0) for a backup which you can do with “Macrium Reflect v7 Free Version” of your system periodically. Good luck

    I had my laptop upgraded to ssd yesterday  =):3 There is no more lag (so far) and it boosts much faster. I also tried opening multiple windows yesterday including Photoshop, Illustrator, MS Edge, and VLC Media Player. Though there was a bit of waiting time on MS Edge, the rest of the apps opened faster, unlike before where they would freeze for 5-10 mins. No need to restart my laptop every hour haha! I wasn't able to upgrade the memory because the repair shop i went to didn't have any 8GB Ram. I'll just test the laptop for now and upgrade the RAM if I have to. Overall, I spent below 80usd/4000php and got the speed i wanted.

    Thank you so much StevenGen and to this online platform for all the help!! If it weren't for your responses, I wouldn't be able to know some of the jargon and terms of components etc. I had an easy time talking with the repair personnel, and i was able to entrust my laptop to them and not be worried that i dont know what was happening to my device (especially when it was being opened apart in front of me. that was a fun experience :)

    It’s always a pleasure to help out and especially help out people who appreciate the help that I’ve provided and everyone here is providing! Thank you.
