Constant blue screen on boot with Predator Helios 300

Hi all,

My son has a Predator Helios 300 (PH315-53-72XD).

It's not (only a couple of months old) and is in a blue-screen loop at boot - immediately blue-screening with the following errors:

KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Any ideas on how to progress?

Following the Windows guide to get into Windows Restore doesn't work - it just keeps BSODing.

What else can I try?

Thanks,

Run a System Scan for Corrupt Files

The more files are used, the more likely they are to become corrupt and create the Kernel Security Check Failure. Windows 10 has an automatic file check app built into it that can find and repair some corrupt files. You should run this scan in Safe Mode.

    Step #1

Once you have restarted in Safe Mode, press the [X] key and the [Windows] key together. On the menu that appears, select “Windows PowerShell (Admin).”

    Select Windows PowerShell

    Step #2

When the PowerShell opens, type in “sfc /scannow” or cut and paste the command without the quotation marks. Then, press [Enter].

    Run windows command sfc scannow

    Step #3

After the scan finished (it could take some time), type “Repair-WindowsImage -RestoreHealth” (without the quotation marks) into the new prompt or copy and paste the command there. Press [Enter] when you are done. Again, it may take some time for the repair to finish.

    Run Repair WindowsImage

    Step #4

When it is finished, close the PowerShell window, and restart the computer

Thanks for the reply - I tried that too. Given it wouldn't boot into Windows I had to Alt-F10 and get into recovery, then use the console to try various scans.

I tried the memory scan, the sfc scan, and the chkdsk - none of them flagged anything.

In the end I made a Win10 boot USB and totally wiped/reinstalled.

Sadly, was more important to get the laptop working again than take the time to try to recover all the files. But, would love to find a better solution for next time that doesn't require wiping everything.

For anyone else who runs into this -

    1. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options
    I followed:
Use installation media to restore your PC
I created a new USB key, then booted using Alt-F10 at start-up.

    I chose Restore from USB.

Everything reinstalled cleanly and seems to be running fine.

I would just like to say I recently bought Predator Helios 300 with Nvidia 3060 card. I have gone through every troubleshooting method there is. I still have a bluescreen error on initial startup. This continued even after upgrade to Windows 11. Noone has been able to give me a satisfactory answer as to why this continues to happen. Maybe I just bought a junk laptop.
