Replace the motherboard in the computer. BIOS battery replaced. When power is applied, I get the message "No boot device found." Changed the BIOS so that if F12 is pushed at boot time, you get a menu to choose which device to boot from. The only thing that shows is the DVD drive. Shut down computer. Turned on the next day and it booted!! Did all of the Windows 10 updates and the computer rebooted. Back to the message "No boot device found!" What am I doing wrong?

What are the specs of your Aspire Z3-615, are you running an Intel i5 or i7 CPU, HDD, Win-10 etc and what format is your HDD is it MBR/Legacy or GPT/UEFI type? Also what BIOS are you running on the Aspire Z3-615? Is it the last Version: P11.A2L Date: 2014/07/02? As with a UEFI BIOS and "No boot device found" could be that your BIOS disables the ‘Secure Boot’ and that is why you get the message "No boot device found" you can enable it by:

    • Click on the security tab in the BIOS settings.
    • If you cant get into the “Secure Mode” option then “Set Supervisor password” which should open the ‘Secure Boot’ oprtions, you can disabl this after.
    • Use the Up and Down arrow to choose the secure boot option
    • Select the option using Arrows and change the secure boot from Disabled to Enabled
    • Press Enter
    • Save your work and exit.

This should give you the options at BIOS in the "Boot" section and the "Boot Mode - [UEFI]" and "Secure Boot - [Enabled]" and the "Boot priority order: with all your boot options so that you can reboot and get into your HDD OP system.

If this does not fix your problem then run CHKDSK to check and repair SSD bad sectors or check if your HDD is faulty and/or its connections are connected properly and/or not faulty. All storage components spinner HDD) or SSD should be checked and CHKDSK should be run to check and repair HDD/SSD bad sectors and analyses their status of ‘bad sectors’

Running Intel i5 CPU. 1TB HD, Windows 10 Home. The computer boots! Sometimes. But do not know why!!
It is the original HD and Windows 10. The drive has NOT been reformatted. It is the original BIOS P11.A1. I have not updated to p11.A2L as it adds support for GT820M Graphics. This does NOT have that. Does the newer BIOS give more options? I tried what you said re: Security. I added the PW but get no options for anything else. Will updating to P11.A2L give more options?

I got the computer to boot Windows 10!
BUT... When I do a restart, it will not boot.
I am back to the original problem. Drive not found!

Sounds as if the drive is behaving badly. Does it always boot from a cold start and always fail from a warm start?

That is the wired part. Once I get the message that no boot device found, if I disconnect the spinner drive and connect an SSD, the computer will boot just fine. If I do an Windows 10 update and reboot, I get the no boot device found again. I have looked in the BIOS for UEFI items, but I do not find any. I can then reconnect the spinning drive and it will boot. the BIOS is P11.A2L.
  • Your model came with the stock operating system windows 10 or linux, provided. The bios that p11.a2l refers to the linux operating system. It is possible that this is the problem, since you have windows 10.

Yes, did it come with Linux originally or did you update to get the L version of the BIOS?
