I've had the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-53 for over 2 years now and have been experiencing horrible thermals for the past couple months.  Despite low cpu (i5-8300H) and gpu (1050 TI) usage, I reach the upper 90s in celsius constantly.

I've tried everything that I found online, from changing power settings to replacing the thermal paste.  I still haven't gotten meaningful improvements, and am beginning to believe the problem may be with my power supply or something else which I haven't tested as much.

The full list of what I can remember trying is below.

  • Changing power plan to power saver
  • Reducing max processor usage
  • Cleaning fans
  • Replacing thermal paste
  • Changing location
  • Changing GPU settings
  • Updating all drivers
  • Reducing running programs
  • Lowering in-game settings
It's worth noting that my computer doesn't get as hot when on battery, but my attempts to mirror battery performance to charging have failed.  Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
