S5-371: BIOS update and BitLocker lockout

I've used the computer since 2017. I just updated the BIOS (1.05 to 1.06) and when I rebooted, BitLocker (which I didn't even know existed thus didn't know to turn it off or record the passwords) won't let windows boot without the recovery key. The message states that the "BitLocker secure boot policy has unexpectedly changed".
I've tried to find a way to change the secure boot policy in the BIOS but the system doesn't allow me to do it. I haven't yet tried resetting to the original configuration as I have no idea if that would cause additional problems.
Is there 1) any chance that ACER has the BitLocker recovery key - I certainly never turned BitLocker on 2) can someone advise me of a way to modify the secure boot policy in the BIOS to see if that works or 3) other solution?

  • Try this procedure to fix some bugs that remained during the update of the bios:
    a) access the bios and then f9 to restore it. Then click on save and shut down. If there is no "save and shut down" option, press f10 and then shut down the laptop;
    b) then, perform the battery reset:

    Thanks for your idea Egydiocoelho but BitLocker still won't let me through.
    I'm running out of options it would seem.
  • Try restoring the bios by pressing f9 and then f10.

    HI Egydiocoelho,
    Sorry, I wasn't descriptive enough in my previous comment. I did re-set the bios follow the instructions you provided, but BitLocker still popped up when I re-booted. I decided to do a clean install and now everything is working fine - minus all the docs and photos that weren't backed up.
    Thanks again for the help.
