Touchpad on ACER AC ASP5 SLV 15 stopped working - red image of touchpad with X on startup

Have gone through all the online help to no avail and emailed acer support with no reply and updated any driver that looked relevant.

Same thing happened with the touchpad back in march just before Covid lockdown and the repair report from Curry's TeamKnowHow says 'The issue you reported was caused by an outdated device driver....We have updated some device drivers. To help prevent issued in the future we have also updated you BIOS, updated your operating system and updated your firmware...issue fully resolved"

I've noticed in the BIOS there is no reference to a touchpad but don't know if this is relevant and very hesitant to start messing in BIOS without tech support.

What is the exact model? Example AN515-51-75KZ. Does the same problem occur even after resetting the battery?

When you press ctrl + s on the main bios tab, does the sata mode and touchpad function appear?

Yes tried reseting the battery to no avail. Label says its AS515-52-506D.

No function called Touchpad in BIOS. The BIOS version is 1.16

Despite being a risky and dangerous procedure, check if there is a version with a newer version of the bios, updating the firmware driver through the device manager, as it is possible that the acer website does not contain the latest version of the bios. Before updating the bios, charge the battery to 100% and do not disconnect the power adapter. I am not responsible for any damage.

Am out of my depth here...

ran update driver to "Acer Inc System Firmware1.14" from Device Mgr but it says it has the latest version.

The Acer BIOS download web page offers the following which means nothing to me:
