I was doing my 3 monthly internal cleaning, the CPU fan (removing dust etc).  When I touched the Hard Disk to be surprised how hot it was.  Is it meant to be hot during operation?  My PC: Aspire XC-330 only has a single fan for the CPU.  Previous PCs i owned always had 2nd fan to circulate air.  I thought I could add an additional fan, but I can find no information on the motherboard (so i can determine where to connect fan), and there seems to be know where on the case to hold one either.  The PC is standing free of any clutter, it is hot today in my town, temp in my room is 30C.  If i had to guess the temp of the HD is probably about 40C.  Is this normal?  Thanks.

    Dear Synchroni,

Feeling the HDD hot or warm is kind of subjective thing.

If the HDD is 51 degree C, it will show up as a "red" zone in CrystalDiskInfo program, but the status will be still good. Having 49 degree C in hot summer day should not be alarming for those spinning HDDs, unless they are more than a few degrees in the "red" zone for a long time.

If you use a SATA SSD instead of spinning HDD, you will see temperatures in the 30-40 degree range.

Yeah, those temperatures are pretty normal for a HDD in a warmish room. SSDs generate a lot less heat and if you are worried a swap to an SSD would be wise, it will also speed things up a huge amount.
