You can upgrade your Acer Aspire A514-52-799B laptop up to a maximum memory capacity of 32GB Memory. The laptop has 2 Slots to install memory, already with 4GB (Soldered onto the mainboard) standard memory installed. For best Aspire A514-52-799B laptop performance use the maximum amount of 32GB, fill all the slots with the max allowed memory per slot for your laptop. Either 2x 16GB DDR4 PC4-21300 2666MHz SODIMM or 2x 8GB DDR4 PC4-21300 2666MHz SODIMM  depends on your budget?

Well I just rechecked the specs. Acer website (where I bought it from on August 9) says max ram is 12gb. The initial ram I have is 8gb. I see conflicting answers and I'm trying to find a clear answer before I invest on an upgrade.

You may not get a clear answer out of this, but you'll learn a thing or about where the limits are, check out this thread on RAM upgrades: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/608352/guide-how-to-find-out-if-you-can-upgrade-the-ram-and-which-one-you-need

Not long ago an user of an AIO device went through that guide and despite Acer listing in a page that the maximum memory for his or her system was 16 GB, it was verified to be able to run 32 without problem. It is possible that the specs for your system are mistaken, or apply to a different sub-model. 12 GB in this day and age seem like an arbitrary number.
