Judging by my internet search, this has been asked several times, but I'm hoping someone can give me a little bit of hope or clear step by step instruction on how I might be able to fix this issue.

The computer is almost 5 years old, but has always ran like a dream up until this moment. I haven't backed it up recently (I do art and design for a living, and would very much like to do that in the event it dies again). I was doing some virtual puzzling/voice chatting with friends when my computer suddenly turned off. It gave me no warning of low battery (which it normally does...). It currently will not turn on, nor will it show signs of charging. No lights indicating life. I tried the battery-pinhole reset but I'm not confident if I even did it correctly, but so far that hasn't worked. I just ordered a new charger, hoping that's just the issue, but I'm really concerned that it's a hardware problem.

There's a very subtle noise coming from the computer - but it's very consistent. A near silent 'pop' that happens in almost perfect time (about every 5 seconds) that sounds like it's coming from the track pad. I wouldn't be able to hear this without sitting in complete silence.

I have a friend who can help me replace the battery if needed, but I'm looking to see if anyone has any other insights/clues as to what could be going on. Please help!
