Maxed out my laptop with 16 gb of ram and added a seagate 2tb hhd for total of £110. All simple enough to do apart from removing the wifi card to get the cable for hhd fitted properly.

thank you acer for producing laps that are still upgradable without snapping clips like other makes of portables.

Maybe  one day all laptops will be upgradable again like back in ancient times pre 2005 for those who can remember those times :)

While I find it nice that they added the necessary cables to add a secondary hard drive for that model, I'd say it's not so upgradable or even serviceable.

You either have 4GB of RAM soldered in already or you're lacking them, but a second socket for RAM isn't included in its place, losing any dual channel capabilities you may have had. If your processor is Comet Lake based and supports up to 64 GB of RAM, the chipset itself limits you to 32 (if there were indeed two sockets for RAM).

Besides, and perhaps more troublesome, the keyboard in those units is fused to the palmrest by plastic... tabs? (I don't know the word) making it arduous and not worth the time to replace without replacing the whole thing (and good luck getting parts) disassembling the whole laptop in the process.

An USB Type-C port that doesn't even implement a single alt mode nor complies with Power Delivery, even in the G models with a dedicated graphics card, a rather simplistic firmware setup utility (BIOS). BIOS upgrades without ME code upgrades leaving the machines vulnerable (not a single one to date comes with ME firmware).

Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy with my unit, specially since I'm one of the lucky ones that got an IPS-like panel with it (another thing with variance); it's just that they should have done better. We ought to strive for a higher standard and hold them to it, even for mid-range devices, and keep pushing the limits ;)

I don't think we'll ever get machines as serviceables as those produced up to the 2007 era.

Heh-heh. Every so often, even after 2007, ACER has designed/released some fairly powerful laptops that are quite serviceable and upgradeable.  For example, a few Win7/Win8x era ACER laptops required the removal of only a single screw from the base cover to allow it to easily slide away the top assembly. This exposed the entire bottom side of the mainboard upon which all the removable/upgradeable component sockets were mounted and eminently accessible (wifiBT card, RAM modules, HDD, etc.) I have one that is still my workhorse daily-driver albeit running MintCinnamon these days.    :)    Jack E/NJ

I want that! Those were the days! :)

I swapped out 8 gb ram for the 16gb ram. My version of the laptop only had 1 slot but i can live with that :)
