Aspire ES 15 - Microphone Not Working

I have a theory as to why the microphone isn't working although I have absolutely no idea how to fix it. My theory is about a year ago when I first got the laptop whenever I plugged in headphones it would give me an option to choose what kind it is (Headphones, Microphone, Headset, etc.) and me, thinking I'll never need it made it so it automatically chooses headphones. Well past me was way wrong and now here I am having to use a cheap usb mic when I have a more high quality one sitting right beside me. I know that it's possible to use the headset because my sister has the same headset as me and has that pop up as well and she to has an acer laptop. (although I'm not certain as to which specific model it is)  

Basically, in short I want to know how to turn on the audio jack pop up thing again, and if it's not that then just how to get it to work.

If must be known what headset I'm trying to use it's a Turtle Beach Recon 50X.

Yeah, It ain't on my computer but at the same time it is, it's not in device manager but my laptop uses it for the speakers and built in mic... so I can't do that
