Helios 700 PH717-71, constantly swapping between not charging/charging under GPU load

Last night my Helios 700 suddenly started swapping between not charging and charging when it's under a GPU load (Around 40% or higher).
I've tested this with all 4 overclocking profiles, with/without the keyboard slid out.

Laptop has been working fine since I bought it at the start of April, not missed a beat until this.

This causes it to drop into power saving, which causes frame rates to dramatically drop (Was in VR when it first happened, so the world suddenly froze on a frame).
Very high GPU load caused it to hard power off (battery was around 97%).

Under light load (normal use), everything seems to be fine and battery charges to 100%.

Tested with User Benchmark, CPU, RAM and Disk tests all seemed fine, but as soon as the 3rd GPU test started, the charging/not charging started. 4th test caused it to hard power off.
Only previous time I've seen that happen was when I had a desktop with a low quality PSU that couldn't supply enough power to the GPU.

Everything was up to date (Windows, Drivers, BIOS etc.). The BIOS was updated about a month ago so any issues from that I would have thought I would of seen by now.

Tried fresh OEM install of Windows, same thing happened.

Tried another plug socket, another 3 pin cable with the same results. Unfortunately I don't have any other laptop chargers that come close to the wattage to test with.

I've done a visual check of the power brick, it's warm but not hot, no visual damage. Laptop is pristine.

Guessing this might be an RMA as I can't think of anything else software wise that could cause it, but hoping someone might be able to see something I've missed.

I can't edit (sorry for the bump), but tried the battery reset button, managed to get a full run of User Benchmark on Normal overclock, but still got the charging/discharging issue on Boosted in Benchmark and in VR.

Another run through of Benchmark resulted in a hard power off during GPU test.

Makakar please check your battery wear with either hwinfo or battery bar pro if over 20% consider it faulty ad needs to be replaced it can be also the adapter itself faulty you should check it with a voltmeter to see if its outputting the correct voltage and bare in mind that when on high demanding apps/games for long periods of time the battery main purpose its to provide the system with more power when the adapter cannot provide enough to the cpu/gpu and when this one reaches to 40% or under the adapter will start to recharge the battery and cannot do both at same time as this point you should stop everything and let the battery recharge to 100% (might not be the case but just explaining it anyway) if you tried everything already i suggest you to contact acer support and send it back to get it diagnosed good luck

Have u created a acer stock recovery drive before you formatted it if not your acer recovery partition its gone forever with the acer flavoured windows and pre loaded software/drivers

@xapim Thanks for the suggestions.

Tested voltage from the power supply, getting spot on 19.6V.

Looked at HWInfo, interestingly the Wear Level is 13%, much much higher than I would have thought for a 4 month old laptop!

Sorry meant Acer's version of Win 10, so everything is saved.

With regards to battery level, this happens regardless of the battery level, e.g. I'm currently sitting at 100% battery, just ran another User Benchmark and at the GPU test once it gets above 40% GPU load it stars cycling between not charging and charging.

At this point I think I need to go to Acer Support for them to take a look, I've gone through the Ask a Question, but might give them a call if I can find their UK number.

Just an update as I don't like leaving things unanswered, contacted Acer.

Guy on the phone seemed a bit overwhelmed by my diagnostics and said he would speak to a tech.

They believe it's the power brick at fault and would replace it, but haven't heard how they will send and they haven't asked for my address, so not sure what will happen.

Doesn't seem to do it as much, only when using the boosted/extreme overclocks, so definitely seems power related, although I can see it peaks at pulling 288 watts. Not sure how much it should pull under full load.
