    >>>I have my new SSD arriving tomorrow. >>> I've been hearing that the manufacturers are the ones to set the memory allocation for integrated GPUs>>>

Yes true but the extent of being able to do so from inside the operating system is usually governed by lower level firmware. But sure, I also think it's worth a shot to try the Microsoft flavored Win10 since you're not changing the ACER flavored partitions on the original factory drive. I'd try that myself before trying to update the poorly described firmware. Jack E/NJ

Well after quite the ordeal involving a screw made of what could only be described as the weakest metal known to man being stripped straight out of the factory on my M.2 slot I have changed the SSD and tried a clean windows install. Still the same issue. Been looking at the same issue with other manufacturers using the same processor and the result appears to always be the same with 2GB reserved for the Vega 8 iGPU. I'll keep an eye on the other thread to see if any potential ways to alter it come up but in the meantime I'd like to say thank you very much for taking the time to help me.

I wonder... in the other thread I wrote some steps on what to do to see if the same experience is also present in Linux.

Could you give it a try if you have a USB drive you could use momentarily? https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/comment/900557/#Comment_900557

I'm curious to know if it's something that has to do with the way Acer / AMD have configured the system itself, i.e. firmware, or if it's something Windows does; which would imply a way to change that behavior may be possible.

As for clean install vs cloning, I'd have gone for a clean installation too.

Do you mean the card hold down screw at the top of the card? Did the screw strip or embedded mainboard nut strip? They're both rather soft plated brass so not unusual.

If it was mine, I think I'd have to see if two 4GB modules were installed. Then remove one to see what happens to the reserved allocation. If it remains 25% (drops to 1GB), then it's likely fixed. Did you post any queries yet on the cpu forums https://community.amd.com/community/support-forums/processors   ?

Gave a linux boot a try, still 2GB of RAM hardware reserved. Pretty sure its just the way the Vega 8 iGPU is set up. Wierdly the laptop still acts as if it has 8GB RAM i.e RAM heavy tasks don't seem to be creating bottlenecks yet.

Thank you all for your help

You might want to consider posting a short note on the other thread simply that you're monitoring it. Just so that you'd be automatically alerted to any new developments there that might be applicable to your system.
