Is a M.2 SSD heat-sink or thermal pad a good idea?

I am going to install the Crucial P2 M.2 SSD into my Acer Nitro 50 N50-600-UR12. I have both the Micro Connectors M.2 SSD Thermal Pad, and the ELUTENG 2-Set M.2 2280 SSD Heatsink. Will adding a heat-sink for my P2 SSD actually lower the SSD's temperature? Does anybody know if the thermal pad is better or safer? Or is the metal heat-sink better or safer? Does the Nitro 50 already contain a heat-sink on the motherboard for M.2 SSD's? I will provide a link for my P2 SSD and the 2 heat-sinks that I bought.
