Helios 300 G3-572 BIOS problem

Hi, I have this helios 300 from 2017. I have the following issues:
-Whenever I change any setting in BIOS, the UEFI interface becomes super laggy and the fans start spinning. I am able to save settings but after dealing with the extreme lag going from one menu item to the other.
-When the laptop boots up, it display a blank screen before getting to the splash screen, which then also takes a lot of time. This happens quite frequently. I have tried resetting the battery pinhole and BIOS to defaults but that didn't help.
I tried changing/removing ram modules, the sata drive but that didn't change the behavior.

I just now unplugged the battery and reset the pinhole, and the boot seems to work fine, but changes to the BIOS lead to the lag again. I am not sure if the problem will re-appear.

What is the issue here? Did anyone else experience the same problem?

arc89 undervolting properly with TS usually doesnt cause any issues with the bios at all as TS will communicate with the bios hidden/locked settings directly to change the values but to remove the undervolt values you need to turn off TS delete or rename the conf ini file then shutdown (not restart) and after setup bios to defaults and if your settings are saving fine that means your rtc battery still good hope it helps in any way

arc89 what do u mean by <<<I just now unplugged the battery >>> did u had it unplugged the laptop doesnt not work properly with battery disconnected as its needed for the best performance to provide more power when the adapter cannot provide enough to the cpu/gpu and leave the bios settings at the defaults also test your ram with memtest64 for a proper battery powerdrain you need to press/hold the pinhole switch for 30s+ and leave the laptop to completely discharge all the capacitors for 2/3h then boot into the bios and load setup defaults also u state <<<but changes to the BIOS lead to the lag again>> what do u mean by that exactly what are u changing in the bios as i said it should stay on default settings and check your battery wear with hwinfo or battery bar pro if more than 20% consider replacing your battery as its faulty and never use it to game on battery only it will damage it severely only use it on battery on emergency and really light work good luck

I removed the back cover, then I unplugged the battery cable, did the pinhole reset, then replugged the battery.
Whenever I change any setting in the BIOS, it gets laggy. Doesn't matter which. For instance, I like to enable F12 boot option, so I can't use the defaults. The battery is doing perfect btw, ~12% wear after 3 years

arc89 u dont need to disassemble the laptop and unplug the battery for a battery powerdrain theres a pinhole for it also what are u trying to boot and from where might be a case of what your trying to boot from its causing the lag when the bios tries to recognise the device

Earlier I had tried the pinhole reset without disassembling but that didn't help. Doesn't BIOS behave independently of the boot drive? I have two drivers, one with windows and other with linux.

arc89 the bios its the heart of the laptop system without it nothing works as its from there that all the devices are detected to inform the OS of all the hardware attached if some of the hardware removable or not its not working properly may cause issues in the bios when detecting it and dual boot with linux was always a bit of a nightmare on win 10 thats why i suggest to use a vm instead when dual booting win10 with any other OS either way hope u find the issue also dual booting any os along win10 its not officially supported by acer

What version of BIOS are you on?

I'm on BIOS 1.22, the latest one released by Acer in 2019. I also checked if I could downgrade it, but that is not allowed..no option to rollback.

arc89 well my last advice here would be if youre still on warranty (if its a G3-572 i really doubt it as its a 2017 model unless you bought extended warranty same as i did) to contact acer support explain the issue and send it back to get it diagnosed properly and even reflashed as its a really weird issue.

PS: also i would check one last thing before anything else try to see if your rtc battery its not dead as they will need to be replaced they wont last forever as they store the bios settings if they are dead the settings wont save might just be simple as a new battery

Thanks for your answers. No, I am not on warranty anymore...should have purchased the extended version.

Any specific pointers to how can I check the status of the RTC battery? The BIOS settings are saved when I change them.

On another note, I also had an undervolt of 0.125v applied. I have disabled it now and also set BIOS to defaults. Let's see how it behaves. Can an undervolt cause such problems?

I am also on the same version of BIOS for a very long while now. Are you sure the BIOS upgrade finished with no errors? When did you upgrade it? Since when are you seeing this issue.

I have been seeing this problem more frequently since the past 2-3 weeks, but before that everything seemed to be fine. At the moment I have removed undervolting and reset BIOS to defaults and am not seeing the problem since couple of days, but I'm not sure if it might surface again.

The BIOS was upgraded a long long time ago and I do not recall any issues at the time of upgrading. On the other hand, my webcam stopped working a month ago - not sure if that could be related in any way.
