I purchased the predator helios 300 to replace my samsung laptop.  i took the ssd out of my laptop hoping to be able to access all of my programs, pictures and files on my acer.  The samsung rand windows 10 as does my new acer but i cans open anything.  I'm a 70 yr old rookie trying to figure out if this scenario is even possible.  Does anyone know?

Thank you

    Hi,
Could you please tell us how you are connecting the old HDD from Samsung in the new laptop, you need to use an external HDD enclosure, insert the HDD in it and connect the enclosure with a SATA to USB cable, anyway, give this a try and see:

werock49 in some cases when trying to access profile files like documents/downloads/desktop folder or program files folder you need to take full ownership of those folders as they were assigned to the previous user account on the other device not sure if this is the case but check here  this also applies for ex to system folders like windows apps hidden folder also theres no need for an external enclosure a normal usb adapter will do the job unless you are going to permanently use the drive externally  if so i recommend checking startech enclosures if not check here for a normal and cheap usb sata/ide adapter

Thank you for the info.  It worked for the most part.  I still have some photos on there that i had in a Picasa program that I cant access.  Just wondering if there is any way i can download Picasa to that drive so I can access them, or, somehow set up that hard drive so when i bring it up, it gives me a desktop and everything that it did on the old computer.

    Thanks

werock49 doesnt picasa stores the files/photos in the cloud also picasa finished all photos moved to google photos and they should have all been stored in the cloud you should probably ask google to sort out that issue for you as its their software https://picasa.google.com/

Well seems that the drives was the system drive correct unfortunately any system drive from any older device would not work properly on different hardware as its setup to the device hardware where it was being used you can try to boot fom it using the boot menu (you probably need to enable it from the bios first) but bare in mind if the other OS was in mbr and not uefi/gpt would not boot in any new devices unless you disable secure boot and change from uefi t legacy but your current OS will stop booting and its not guaranteed that even so it would even boot but as you said the samsung was also running win10 if it was in uefi/gpt (most probably was depending on the age of the laptop) the drive should be recognized in the bios as the second bootable drive u just need to enable the bootmenu in the bios and you should be technically good to go anyway good luck and lest us know the results :)
