Hello,
one of my Acer Nitro 5's fans is making grinding noises non-stop, I've opened it up to see what's wrong and blew some compressed air on it, and the sound seems to be coming from the middle part of the fan (where it connects to the motor).

This fan is also causing my laptop to vibrate a bit. Can this be dangerous for my HDD?

Also, how would I go about replacing that fan myself?

Next I'm planning on disassembling the entire heatsink to get access to the fan and see what's wrong. Anything I should be aware of for that?

Many questions, any amount of answers is highly appreciated.

  • Is your notebook still under warranty? If not, disconnect the lithium battery before performing the procedure. If your notebook is under warranty, do not touch the fans, so that the warranty is not violated.
