I have a Spin 1 64 Gb netbook. Was on Ver. 1909 on Win10. Bios V 1.04. Update prompted to install Win10 version 2004 however part way thru it said to install USB media as space was required. I did and download completed and began installing. It was taking awhile so I checked back in to see a flash message "Attempting to recover installation" then "Undoing changes to your computer". It would attempt to restart where the Acer logo would appear, the loading circles, a white bordered flash, then same messages again. Microsoft helped with media creation tool on another PC to create the 2004 update however I can not get the Spin 1 to load it. A message pops up "Please insert USB media and press OK". In accessing BIOS via F2 key the InsydeH20 interface shows Boot Mode option is only [UEFI] I disabled Secure Boot but the only option is "1. Windows Boot Manager" I do not have an option for USB drive. How can I change this?

I see, you're going through a rabbit hole it seems: tried to update, something went wrong and now it keeps on trying or repairing itself.

Do you have anything of value in your laptop? I could suggest you do a clean installation from the beginning, but that would mean you forgo anything you have there.

An option prior to doing that could be to copy documents and the like you may have there in your machine, and then proceed with the installation. You'd need something you can boot to, and preferably with something familiar to you. For that I have uploaded a live environment of Windows with Macrium's Reflect Free (it has a file manager at the bottom left): https://mega.nz/file/JBlwSKrK#jTuSpUejWYTL0m-6pjqXG9R4oJKmG6OUfajsP1B8XQg

Use Rufus again to create a bootable USB stick for UEFI and boot from it, then copy anything you like to an external device, if there's anything you wish to preserve. Otherwise just go ahead and clean install Windows. I wrote a detailed thread on how to do it, and a PDF with some things corrected here: Installing Windows cleanly

Thanks but your video does not solve the problem. As I said when I go to Boot the only option is [UEFI] with no legacy option, and, the only selection in Boot Priority Order is 1. Windows . There is no USB option showing. So, even though I have a USB inserted it does not recognize it. Your video is good for other machines but not the Spin 1 111-33 64Gb .

The install media needs to be GPT and UEFI. I'm guessing the one they had you create isn't. Download the correct version of Windows 2004 from the Microsoft site as an ISO. Then use Rufus to create a GPT boot flash drive from that ISO. When you have Secure boot disabled and the F12 boot menu enabled, F12 will give you both the C: drive and the USB drive as options.

OK, fast forward, I have used rufus to create a GPT based USB drive and installed the Windows update to it. Then I enabled the F12 boot key and disable the secure boot mode, F10 to save and exit. Restarted the PC with the USB drive installed pressed F12 and now I am at this selection option.(See pic) Since I'm not sure what to expect, does this erase everything if I do a clean installation or just a clean install of Windows and not all my other programs and files.

By the way, I am so appreciative of your help! You have nailed it.

As I continue on I selected (No) and I arrive at a Windows Install screen with repair your computer option (see pic) select Install now goes to an upgrade or Custom screen, Select Upgrade gives a compatibility upgrade isn't available. From the Install now screen if I select repair computer I get this screen option. If I select Continue Windows rollback it goes into the initial loop I described earlier.
Pictures are in reverse order starting from the bottom picture up to the top picture.

You may need to delete all partitions before starting to install windows.

Sorry, I was caught in the recent login downtime and haven't been able to respond. If you boot on your regular setup does it let you get into Windows or does it do the restart, restart, restart thing? If it lets you get into Windows after backing off the update then we'll approach things one way, if it just in the boot loop we'll do it differently. The suggestion from egydiocoelho about deleting all partitions is a bit further down the line because it will wipe all your data out for a fresh install of Windows. That's great with a couple of caviats, first copy off anything you want to keep like documents and pictures and secondly download from Acer's support site the drivers for your machine. There's little that's more frustrating that getting the nice clean install finished only to find you have no internet because the wireless drivers weren't included. :)

Definnitely! That's ony of the steps I wrote about in the clean install procedure, before starting anything copying networking drivers to the installation USB stick is godsend when Windows doesn't have an inbox driver for the cards.

But I also suggested removing every partition in there, I like it to be clean and seeing crazy partitioning schemes sometimes I'd rather leave it up to Windows to create them. Take a quick look at the guide, if you find it useful you can use it as a resource if someone needs to perform clean installations and any comment with more recommendations is always welcomed over there ;).

Let's hope @Is@Islandboy552 gets back to us with how things are going.

Sorry for the delay in responding as I was away from being able to address this problem and giving it my attention so let me start with the 1st unanswered  response from https://community.acer.com/en/profile/aphanic. 1. Your Rabbit hole analogy is what I feel for sure. I haven't gone through your detailed guide yet, please bear with me, but I can advise each of you https://community.acer.com/en/profile/billsey https://community.acer.com/en/profile/egydiocoelho that I do not have access to a command prompt on the c:drive or any internet drivers downloaded to the Windows install image file on the GPT created USB drive.  Because the laptop was only 64Gb I did fortunately have a 64Gb micro sd card that I stored any personal data on. I am not able to locate the USB recovery drive that I created after I left Windows 10S , installed MS Office, and Garmin Basecamp. So that's my status, I really appreciate the help and please give me any heads up concerns I should be aware of before proceeding further.

If you are concerned about recovering the files, you can press shift + f10 when installing windows, to open the command prompt and use the "COPY" command, similar to this:
How to copy a folder via cmd - Stack Overflow
Or you can use the notepad.exe command to try to save the files.

Don't worry about a thing, there were some problems with the forum platform as well so it was tricky to use meanwhile.

My guide expects Windows 10 without the S, do you need it to be Windows 10 S? Let me know because the first steps would change, but otherwise the first steps guide you through creating 2004 recovery media. And if you have a USB stick inserted it will be used to create a bootable drive with it.

I think I mentioned in the post, but backing up ones' things is important because we'd delete it all following it (the PDF is a tad clearer than the post). Calmly check it out without doing anything in your machine, as if it were a book. Because I included images you'd get an idea of what would happen, when, how to proceed, etc.

And we'll all be here to help or clarify should you need it ;)

We could try something else to copy the files over to another place ;)

Just made a Windows live environment that can help and these would be the steps:
    • I was going to suggest using the same installer USB stick but to keep it simple I'll go through Rufus. Download that utility and the image I just built:
    • Open Rufus, don't worry about the interface, insert a USB stick we can use to copy files to, or just to boot from (we could copy the files to an external hard drive for example). Just know that Rufus will delete everything in the disk ;)

    • Select the USB drive you want to use in "Device" and then click SELECT. Choose the image you downloaded, Macrium.iso. Rufus will automatically populate all of the details to sane defaults and we'll leave it like that:

    • Then click on START, it will delete everything from the disk, format it and make it ready to be booted from. You may get asked the following question, to which you can answer either way ;)

    • Once it has finished, you'll have yourself a recovery disk of sorts. It can be used to copy files to external media (or to a networked share), back up drives or clone drives for example. What we're interested this time is copying files.

    • Boot from the USB stick, it should appear in the F12 boot menu (let us know if not to guide you) and once it's done, you'll be greeted with Macrium's Reflect software. You can safely ignore it.

    • Opening it it'll open an explorer-like app that we'll use to copy files. What you want is probably in a local hard drive, but I don't know how the sort of memory your computer has will appear:

    • If your things are in your desktop, documents, etc. they'll be in a folder called "Documents and Settings" (older versions of Windows) or "Users" newer ones, see the following animation for how the procedure be done (excuse the quality, I needed to keep everything contained size-wise):

You'll see an error in the end, telling me there's not enough space in the destination disk, it's a bug, it's not that there's not enough space but that one file I was trying to copy had special attributes and they couldn't be copied; I didn't show it, but everything was copied perfecty ;).

    • And that's it! Your data should be backed up, and you're ready to proceed to the next step which is deleting the hell out of that internal memory and installing Windows anew :). Well, that and installing all of your programs later on again, like Office or the Garmin one.

The image for this recovery environment is so small that even a 1GB USB stick (or a microSD card in a card reader haha) would be enough for it to fit: https://mega.nz/file/FZdiFQLa#9CJvGsODdkxSQ7S7q2aZK3T5TE1PQM5uyT4ANSJqi-Y
