I have an Aspire E1-731-4699 and all of a sudden it has a bios password. The hard drive is presently unbootable. When pressing F2 while trying to start to enter bios is asks for a password. Entering anything at all or nothing I get 3 attempts and then the systems locks (that is what is displayed on the screen) and you have to power dowm and back on again to try. No "unlock key' or anything!

What gives?

Sounds like BIOS security passwords were somehow set for the both entering the BIOS menu  & booting the HDD.  If the machine is no longer under warranty, go to this link to arrange to have it returned to a default configuration. https://customerselfcare.acer.com/CS2/#/_ga

You need to enter a serial number id (SNID) that is on the UPC lable  either on the machine base itself or the box that it came in. If the site still doesn't work, then try it again later tonight or tomorrow, Jack E/NJ
