I have contacted "Technical Support" here in South Africa but, there are unable to give me solution or reasonable answer to my question, other than doing un complete upgrade??
My initial question:-
Does this
laptop support Thunderbolt 3 on the USB C port. I have acquired a Type C HUB in
order to add an additional monitor but nothing seems to work. This is a Core
i7- 9th generation laptop so I'm assuming that Thunderbolt is standard for
video connection. Please help to configure for additional monitor through the
USB C port, thank you. The HDMI is already occupied for a monitor.
Acer initial answer:-
Thank
you for contacting Acer Support.
I am
sorry to hear that you have been having issues connecting via the USB C port.
I/O
Ports
• One DC-in jack for AC
adapter
• One HDMI 2.0b port
• Mini DisplayPort
• One LAN port
• One USB 2.0 port
• Two USB 3.0 ports (one of
the ports supports offline charging)
• One USB 3.1 Type-C Gen1 port
(No
support display out)
• One Headphone jack
• One Kensington Lock
Unfortunately,
as per the service guide it is stated that the type C doesn't support display.
My reply Initial Acer response:-
I cannot
tell you how disappointed I am in paying R25k for in 2020 for an Aspire 7,
core-i7, 9th generation, with a 38 year old DOS like built in
technology. Why offer the Type C USB port if you can only charge a phone with
it. I could have bought a MECER for R3k with a Type C USB port that supports
video via Thunderbolt 3, which incidentally (Thunderbolt 3) has existed since
2015. One would of thought in buying an upmarket Acer laptop that this
inclusion would have been a no brainer. What do recommend to fix this.
I have a
monitor connected to the HDMI Port and I bought a 8 in 1 Type C hub (R 1200) to
add an additional monitor together with supporting additional external drives
that act as databases for the various aspects of my business. This
obviously doesn’t bloody work.
Can you
change my Type C USB port to have the video functionality like every other modern
day laptop possesses. Please forward this email to your technical
director/manager or for further assistance/action.
Acer response:-
Dear
,
Unfortunately,
the whole mainboard will need to be changed but however, know that it will be
at a cost as we would be doing more of an upgrade to the unit.
