Hi, I've been searching the internet for days to resolve this problem but can't find an answer anywhere... I want to record audio from my phone using Audacity software. I was hoping to use a 3.5mm audio cable from the headphone socket on my phone into the audio jack input on my laptop (Aspire E 15 Start ES1-512-C59L). There was a time, not too long ago, when I plugged my headphones in I got a pop-up window that asked what I was plugging in. This no longer appears and I've been all round the houses trying to find it/ get it to reappear. I've tried a USB double jack (headphone/mic) dongle type thing which did allow me to record sound from my phone but, although Audacity was recording in stereo it only gave me a mono recording and was very poor quality sound.

Anyone got any ideas? Any help would be massively appreciated.

You need a stereo 3.5mm audio cable from for a PC or OMTP TRRS headset, not a stereo audio cable from a headphone.  The cheap USB port dongle "things" usually aren't too satisfactory. Jack E/NJ
