Hi

I have an Aspire M3910. It is intel core i3, windows 7 - 64bit, Bios is PO1-A4.

The hard drive has failed.

I tried replacing it with one from a friend. It is Toshiba 1TB from an Aspire XC – 780, (it had a faulty motherboard!),  which has a windows 10 OS installed on it, but it does not boot up. No beep codes sounded.

Help, anyone with a solution/reason for this???

Sorry, the 1TB drive must be changed from GPT to MBR partitioning for your older legacy BIOS machine to see the drive and run Win10. Thus you must essentially re-install Win10 using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool  accessible through this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery

For win-10 you should also upgrade your i3-550 Westmere cpu to the more powerful Core i5-680 Westmere cpu (2 core, 4 threads, 3.6 GHz to 3.867GHz, L2 cache 512KB and L3 cache 4MB and 73W TPD) as its 97% upgradeable with 30% performance increase and its a pretty cheap upgrade.

Also, I would look at upgrading the ram to its max as the Aspire M3910 can take uo to 16GB max and has 4 slots (2 banks of 2) and comes with standard mem of 6GB removable, I would upgrade that to (depends on your existing ram, see GPUz “SPD” for your existing ram specs) and match that, as a budget upgrade or replace it with DDR3L-1600 UDIMM if you dont have that. You could also consider upgrading to an ssd 3D NAND SATA 2.5 inch drive as its 100% faster and better and use that 1TB Toshiba as a slave drive. These are just very affordable suggestions that will improve your M3910 considerably and make the system much more suitable and applicable to win-10.
