Hi,

I have an Acer Ferrari 1000 I am trying to upgrade with an SSD, a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB. When formatting the disk prior to installing Windows XP Pro (with SP3) I get the message that Windows cannot be installed on this disk when formatting has reached 20%. I have tried with a 2nd SSD (same model) and get the same error. What might be the issue?

I have tried the following
- Upgrading BIOS to the latest version (3204)
- The BIOS recognizes the SSD correctly
- Tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate and used diskpart - cleanup all - set to MBR, Windows 7 install displayed same message
- The original harddrive (160GB Hitachi 5400rpm) works, but is slow and is on its last leg. Machine working very nicely apart from that.

It's a limit to XP and the FAT filesystem, I believe. XP without any service packs maxes out at 128GB IIRC. There were ways to get around it by running a utility that added NTFS support, which raises the maximum size to 2TB. I don't know if those types of utility apps are still available.
