Advanced / RAM Overclocking BIOS? (XMP)

Hey guys,

I want to buy 3200mhz RAM for this laptop but it only supports 2666mhz. Do you know if the board will automatically lower the timings with the lower RAM speed?

I wanted to be sure that the timings will be correct for 2666mhz (I don't want them to be CL20), hence it would be great to be able to access and modify those settings in the BIOS.

Does anyone know how to access the special part of the BIOS for XMP RAM Profiles and overclock settings? I heard people saying they could access it by accident but never knew how to repeat the steps. I own a Nitro 5 2019 (AN515-54).

Thanks!

(PS: let me know if you know a way to only search this forum inside of Nitro subjects. I only found a way to search all forums)

Only Acer knows the key combination to unhide the hidden options. Another options is to flash modded BIOS. The answer  is if you are not going to perform one of the above options, then it doesn`t make sence to put 3200 and or XMP one

Well if I upgrade my laptop next year I'd like to not have to spend 150eur again on 32GB of RAM.

Well in that case go for it.

If you can't help, please don't. As in the main post, if someone knows if the board will automatically lower the timings with the lower RAM speed please let me know.

Thanks for the comment, fisrt of all it is not the board but the CPU, so what speed your memory controller in the CPU supports that is waht you will get! Look at the Intel website what you CPU model is cappable of. So to the point, this RAM will never run at 3200 in your laptop unless you do one of the things stated above. Be nice and happy! I am done here.
Oh BTW timings are predefined in the JEDEC profiles of the memory look waht CL you will have at 2666 on the vendor site.

What if the vendor site does not specify timings for 2666mhz?

Then simple search with the model number + cpu-z + timings in a search engine  for images will do the job, unless the vendor site doesn`t have a datasheets. If not able to find ask the vendor directly.

It's exactly that RAM that I'm looking at. No info on timings for 2666mhz

Well I couldn`t find either, so you have to find out yourself...

I'd rather if you stopped spamming the thread. Help from anyone else would be appreciated. Thank you

It's at the bottom of the page for that Kingston ram: JEDEC/PnP: DDR4-3200 CL20-22-22 1.2V. As for lower speeds, you'll probably hit what the HX426S15IB2 models can do of CL15. I would look at the HX426S15IB2 just because it does list a JEDEC rating of DDR4-2666 CL15-17-17 1.2V and (I don't know your location in the world, so prices vary obviously) it seems to be about $30 cheaper than the 3200 kit on Amazon.

Kingston HyperX Impact specs for 2x16gb 3200mhz:
    JEDEC DDR4-3200 CL-20-22-22
    XMP#1 DDR4-3200 CL-20-22-22
    XMP#2 DDR4-2933 CL-17-19-19

Kingston HyperX Impact specs for 2x16gb 2933mhz:
    JEDEC DDR4-2933 CL-17-19-19
    XMP#1 DDR4-2933 CL-17-19-19
    XMP#2 DDR4-2666 CL-16-18-18

Kingston HyperX Impact specs for 2x16gb 2666mhz:
    JEDEC DDR4-2666 CL-15-17-17
    JEDEC DDR4-2400 CL-14-16-16
    JEDEC DDR4-2133 CL-12-14-14
    XMP#1 DDR4-2666 CL-15-17-17

As you can see, the 2666mhz module runs at CL15, but the 2933mhz@2666mhz runs at CL16. So guessing that the 3200mhz@2666mhz will run at CL15 seems poorly thought.

I'm looking for someone who actually knows and not someone who is trying to guess, as I can guess myself too. Thank you

I gave you an honest guess as to the 3200mhz model CL specs. Since your CPU can only hit 2666 without power adjustment, why aren't you just going after the memory that is verified at CL15 and happens to be cheaper? That was the main point of my post and the fact you glossed over it to nit-pick an at best guess, just immediately shows a lack of wanted insight for alternatives.

As for XMP, you'll have to get access by unlocking the bios somehow (unless it came unlocked beforehand). That would require either stumbling over the sequence, or being handed it by support (which this site isn't).

If I wanted to buy the 2666mhz RAM without knowing what would happen with the 3200mhz, I would have done it already. I wouldn't need to come to a public forum to ask for information. The fact is no one increased my knowledge on the subject yet. I rather people refrain from trying to help if they don't know the answer. I don't want to make a lemonade with onions. Right tools and right people for the right problems. Have a good one
