f15 f5-572g-563q won't start

A year ago, my laptop died suddenly.
When starting, with power chord and or battery attached, the blue light for power status flashes, the fan starts to spin and the screen seems to flash.
However, when releasing the power button, everything stops and nothing more happens.
I'm trying to rule out if it is the power or motherboard that's broken (or something else).
The battery seems fine and the orange light for it is continuously on when power is attached.

Any ideas on what I can try?
I've tested the hard drive via another computer and that one works.

Does it ever turn from orange to blue anymore if you leave it plugged in for 8-10 hours? Jack E/NJ

I left both battery and AC plugged in for a couple of hours and it has turned blue now.

Yes. Holding down the button for a few seconds, waiting like 10 min, and then trying to start (AC always unplugged) doesn't help.

Does it stay turned on without the drive installed? If not, remove a RAM module and try again. Jack E/NJ

After I had removed both hard drive and RAM card, the blue light stays on. Nothing happens on screen though, but it doesn't click off. The fan IS spinning.

I might have spotted something weird.
What does the component marked with MAC (3052....) do?

The black button above-right of it is the button I've used to reset the battery.

Might be the spring-loaded safety interlock switch that must be pressed down by the case cover  to power the mainboard. Without the battery connected or charger plugged in repeatedly press and release it a few times to help clean its contacts. Then tape a spacer to it or the corresponding pressure point on the cover to make sure it's fully depressed when the cover is replaced. Jack E/NJ

Sorry, I do not completely understand you.
I remove the charger and the battery.
Do you want me to repeatedly press the button for battery reset?

The MAC component is the wifi/bluetooth card. The numbers are its unique wifi hexadecimal address. I thought you were referring to another springloaded button in addition to the battery reset button. Please look around the periphery of the RAM module socket to see if you can find another spring loaded switch. Repeatedly pressing and releasing any spring loaded switch helps to clean its contacts. So yes, you can also do it with the battery reset switch as long as the battery is disconnected and charger not plugged in. Jack E/NJ

I see, thank you. I noticed that the other two ends of the MAC's cables seem to be broken. So I guess I won't have Wifi if I get the laptop to work. However, my guess is that they aren't the culprits.

I can't seem to find any other pressable button :/

Those are the coax leads to the main and auxiliary antennas in back of the screen. What do you mean they're broken at the other end? They should traverse thru the hinge area along with the LCD screen and cam cable. These cables can be damaged from wear and tear of opening/closing the lid too much. If they hit a ground connection, they could trip a breaker when trying to start the machine. Jack E/NJ

I believe they have snapped by the hinges.

Do you mean that they could prevent the computer from starting?

    Pics of those cables:

Absolutely. It may try to start. But if anything live hits a ground, the power trips off to keep smoke from escaping. I suspect that you may have an issue in the hinge area because that's where breaks usually happen in conductor LCD/cam ribbon cable traces and antenna coax wires. New LCD/cam ribbons and coax are fairly cheap but a chore replacing them. Jack E/NJ

Hmm, alright. I will have a look at replacing them.

I do however clearly remember that the laptop died suddenly when it was still and powered. There was no movement of the hinges.
Do you think they could've snapped at that moment, or would this indicate that something else (or more) is amiss?

Hold on. Did you see if the machine stays on without the RAM & HDD yet? Anything else plugged into the mainboard or external ports that could be disconnected to see if the machine stays on? Jack E/NJ

AC plugged in. Without these, the blue LED stays on when the power button is pressed.

Same result if I unplug the two cables (black and white) to the Mac unit.

I can hear a faint high pitched noise when the laptop is on.

I could unplug these as well, but I do not know what they do.

  • HAVE you checked the second button?

That one doesn't seem to exist for me.
