I want to replace the stock m.2 with a better one. Specifically the WD black sn750 1tb. Can I install the new drive in the open m.2 slot, clone the original to it, and then replace the original one with the new one? I don't want to leave it in the 2nd slot since it's only a sata slot.

  • What is the exact model of the notebook? example ph517-51-58vh. Now, regarding your question, you can clone with the easeus partition or macrium reflect or you can run the tip from this video:

So i was planning on using acronis since western digital has software support through them. the method in the video wasn't really a clone but just a fresh install of windows. after which if i wanted anything from the original drive to be on the new one, i'd have to copy/paste files onto the new drive. wouldn't a clone be easier? especially since acronis will automatically adjust the sizes of partitions.

Calex i use easeus partition master for everything (in my view its the best and most accurate) cloned from hdd to m.2 and vice versa no issues at all but it will take time depending on the drives speeds for ex up to 4/5h to clone a 2.5 hdd into a 2.5 ssd and it will be a complete partitions clone  for ex on my G3-572 i only have one m.2 had to clone my 128gb into my 2tb m.2 bought a 2.5" m.2 adapter and cloned it via my usb dock removed the stock got the 2tb in and thats it booting normally then just arranged the free space left to another partition (which u can adjust it before or after you clone) as i said never failed me in the 100's of drives i have cloned

    Tinkerer

Sorry to revive an old thread.
I have just bought a PNY nvme ssd to upgrade my crucial m2 sata. I cannot find a 'free' software to clone the disk. Acronis, easeus partition master both requires paid license for clone features.

Anyone know any cloning software that works for m2 to m2 clones?
