Fair Disclosure
I am posting this on behalf of my son, who is currently deployed.  He is having issues with the laptop noted above.  I have the initial issues noted below.  Any requests for details, clarification, event logs, etc., may experience some delay (at least until I can link him to this discussion (when his time permits).  I can give further specs, but that is about it.

Acer Predator 15 Gaming Laptop, Core i7, GeForce GTX 1070, 15.6” Full HD G-SYNC, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, G9-593-77WF

- Immediately shuts off when unplugged
- Randomly shuts down, but applications don't close
- Sometimes the display will be blank and I have to shut it off for several minutes before restarting it
- Never charges, its either at "0% available plugged in" or 100%, however, when at 100% it will drop to 0% within minutes of being unplugged if it doesn't shut down first.
- AC adapter also gets very hot during when playing games with what's mentioned above

Acer care center says battery is fine. Anti-virus doesn't say anything is wrong. Event viewer doesn't really show any issues (unless I'm reading it wrong). If there's some kind of crash log or something separate I haven't looked for it yet. No abnormal sounds or temperatures from the laptop itself.

Sometimes when turned the laptop back on it boots to the screen that gives you all these options like shut down, restart, run PC diagnosis, restore system and so on. PC diagnosis couldn't fix anything and my restore points only went back a couple weeks to when this was first an issue. Did not think to take a picture of the screen until I already tried something.

Any advice would be welcome.  Not sure if its a Windows problem (maybe do a factory reset) or hardware.  Thanks in advance for you help!

    I'm the son in question.

I actually forgot those little buttons existed, I remember I had a problem with the battery that I had to put something there to keep them down or whatever, though it was just tissue paper because I was lazy. My laptop has been doing a lot of moving so something probably loosened. I'll dissect it after dinner to see if that's part of it.

All drivers are up to date so that isn't it, wish it was. I did check hwinfo64, all the battery specs look normal outside of the 30% battery wear and the fact its at 0% capacity. A multimeter is out of the question for now, but I feel like I know where to obtain one, but I'll leave it as a last resort.

I've never had so many issues at once so hopefully this is an easy fix and I'm just stupid.

    UPDATE:

I checked the buttons and everything, replaced what I currently had with a thicker material, nothing has changed. The charging light pops in and out from time to time but doesnt last for more than several seconds, looking at it though I'm thinking about replacing the adapter and the battery, which in my opinion isn't very economical unless I get something very cheap.

  • It is very likely that the battery needs to be replaced.

Yeah mines at 30 so its definitely faulty then. A little more upset that it took 3rd party software to learn that, meanwhile Acer Care said everything was fine.
